My First Chinese Breakfast

One of our first mornings home I attempted to make Joshua a Chinese breakfast.

After all he had been awake since 2:00 am and I was up at 4:00 so we had plenty of time to cook.

It started with tea eggs.

Then I realized I had Chinese noodles in the pantry so I cooked those.

Then Sam (yes she was up too) reminded me we had dumplings in the freezer so I cooked those too.

The noodles I topped with cucumber. I also sliced an orange.

Joshua was so excited.

He put his tea egg in the broth and at some point he put the dumplings in too.

I think I did pretty good.

We are all so used to Chinese food.

Everyone ate it and loved it.

Yes, Adam was up too!

Lily, you would be so proud of me.

We're home!

We are so happy to be home with Joshua.

He is a sweet little guy with a funny personality.

He is super smart.

When the translator we are using is working we have some great conversations.

I love his funny faces.

The sun was bothering his eyes.

I kept trying for a smile.

We were getting closer.

Once I showed him my smile he decided to show me his.

I can almost always get him to smile.

My boy

Today is the day!

You have waited so long....

longer than one should have to.

Almost 7 years you have been waiting for your turn.

And it is finally here.

You are so precious to your Maker and to us.

We did not know...but as soon as we did we started working.

I know it seems long but soon we will have forever together.

I know you don't know it, and you might not believe it but families are forever!

Soon you will know.

We love you Jianfeng!!!

Weekend Update

The Smith Family was all over the place this last week and weekend.

We were in:
North Carolina
Washington DC

My weekend started off with a surprise Chinese lunch with my friends to celebrate Joshua.

It was such a fun time.

Then Friday Adam and I headed south to a basketball tournament.

We always have a blast at those!

Daddy and Sammy enjoyed a father daughter day Saturday.

Samantha loves the one on one attention of her daddy!

Sunday after AK returned from DC, they headed north to IEA Regionals.

AK qualified as an individual rider to move on the Zones in Maryland.

Even sleep deprived she did a great job!

Friday CJ headed south, way south to Nicaragua for a week of missions.

Of course he loves the kids and they love him too!

Here is a text he sent me.

Okay so far this trip has been amazing! It's so beautiful here. The place were staying is surrounded by mountains and the wildlife is everywhere. We've served at a few church services and we helped paint at the local clinic. The clinic was the only hospital within the area and it served over 10000 people. It was one story tall and had 5 total nurses none who could perform surgery. All the kids are awesome like I expected. We had a street service last night where we played soccer frisbee jump rope etc and that was so much fun. I threw the frisbee to a group of kids for about an hour. I shared my testimony and preached at the street service. Our group has become so close in the few days we've been here. I love it here and I'm enjoying what I'm doing. Oh and I'll tell y'all about the food when you get back from china. I love y'all and I'll send you a text probably Thursday morning.

He is doing great!

Stephen is spending his spring break in Florida and Joshua is waiting patiently in China.

Speaking of China....

I will post on this blog one more time tomorrow then everything will be on my travel site while we are there.

I will link to my travel site in my next post.

We cannot wait!

Almost There

We are just a couple days away from going to get Joshua.

It is almost time.

Just a few weeks ago I could not stand to look at these pictures.

It brought back that miserable feeling of not being able to go get my son.

I remember seeing all these pictures posted of children and families enjoying the snow.

They even talked about how beautiful it was.

At the time I could not agree.

But God's gift of time always gives us a different perspective.

And now that we are just days away from our trip

I can almost say that last month's snow was beautiful.

Called to serve

This photo was takes in 2006, almost eight years ago.

CJ was headed out to play basketball with orphaned children living at Living Hope's orphanage.

Even as a 7th grade boy his heart was broken for these boys of similar age and how different their lives were.

Today CJ leaves for Nicaragua for a week of ministering to children.

His heart for missions was established early on.

Please pray for my boy.

He loves God and he loves to serve.

Last summer as he and I were serving together he told me he felt best when helping other people.

If Jesus is our example then CJ gets it.

He came to serve.

CJ, we love you and are praying for you.

Go be a blessing!!!!

14 days until...

We are counting down the days until we can finally be on our way to Joshua!

Hoping and praying we do not see this mob scene at the airport again.

Oh that was a terrible day!

Joshua has gone back to school and is doing fine.

I can't wait to get there and see for myself.

This is the longest month ever!
